The House
The rental
market in Houston is strange, unusual and ...did I say strange?
Properties in very poor condition are listed at exorbitant monthly
rents, which apparently are paid; mostly because there are so few homes
in the lease pool.
Speaking
of pools, I really wanted one. But had to be satisfied with a large,
clean, brick bungalow with a big shady back yard for Chance.
These
photos were taken in October, 1999. Since that time we have actually
added furniture. Click the thumbnails to see a larger pic.
*And we
have since moved! Our current house is only a few miles away from the
old one, but is in better condition and has a beautiful small pool. We
are happier here!

 |
The
house from street level. It's on quite a large lot. Most
of the homes in the neighbourhood are a similar style.
Please don't let the photograph mislead you. The house
does not have a thatched roof. |
 |
The
side of the house. There is a driveway to the
garage at the back. |
 |
From
the entrance to the house, looking at the
"formal" living room and beyond to Keith in
the "formal" dining room. Looking at furnished
homes that week, we noticed that the formal style
seems to be a bit overblown and stuffy. Hmmmm. |
 |
Keith
checks to see if the previous tenants left any goodies
in the dishwasher. Alas, no. Kitchen is ok, small and
adequate. |
 |
Here
our realtor, Kathleen, poses by the wet bar and
pass-through from the kitchen to the huge family room.
The floors here are parquet (very '70's?) and not quite
as dark as they appear in the photo. |
 |
The
family room is nice. I'm sure we'll need this fireplace
(actually a working wood-burning unit) a lot when it
dips below 80º. |
 |
The
guest room. I know this will entice you to visit.
Especially when you learn the carpet is really a nice
soft grey. |
 |
The
guest bathroom. This is a '70's house with all the
authentic antique '70's features intact, like this very
interesting floor. |
 |
Keith
is relentless in his search for imperfections in the
master bedroom ensuite bath. Realtor looks on, flirting. |
 |
The
master bedroom, with doors to the patio out back. |
 |
The
patio! See the doors to the master bedroom. |
 |
The
back of the house. What a lovely day. In summer we won't
be able to enjoy this patio at all. Many people leave
town in summer (summer: June, July, August, September). |
 |
The shady Chance yard, which he will
enjoy 8 months of the year. Note: no pool.
But a pool
would be nice.
