THE ZAMBEZI RIVER

Our 10 a.m. Zambezi River "cruise" featured only four passengers and our guide, Danny, plus tinkly gin and tonics while we watched baby crocs go for a swim. We thought of Dr. David Livingstone on the same journey. Upon seeing the Falls from the river, he wrote in his journal that such a lovely sight "must have been gazed upon by angels in their flight." Today, you can pay "The Flight of Angels" to take you on a short aerial tour over the Falls.

 

 
On the cruise.
Hippos
Keith watches herons relaxing on the Zimbabwe side of the river. The Zambezi forms the northern boundary between Zimbabwe and Zambia.
Hippos are a common site on the Zambezi. In fact they would make a good logo for a local Zim lager, called Zambezi beer.

A very young crocodile lounges, almost invisible, in the branches of a mopane tree.
This young croc prefers a dip in the river.
 
Spotting elephants.
A highlight of the cruise was spotting a large herd of elephants bathing in the river.
